...The Hell?

In this segment of the adventure, our heroes began by leveling up. After the (considerable) time had been taken to do just that, we continued on the journey. If you recall, just last time, the party defeated Magus, a dark sorcerer who had given himself fully to the powers of Ice, and rested and recovered from the battle. Aiden and Trelic picked up loot, a Robe of the Conjurer that increases fire damage and resistance; as well as a Blizzard’s staff, that fires magical ice energies, at no cost to the user.

The party descended into a crypt under Fellcrest Cave. This crypt was extensive, and the opening area had several sepulchers, (reeeeally nice coffins) which the party wanted nothing more than to open. Naturally, they proceeded to do so, and the first coffin was nice and full of noxious gas, which poisoned and hurt the closest party members.

There was some writing on the coffins, which glowed when the gas escaped, some of it was indeed missing, but the clearer bits of one of the coffins read: “Here Lies Velwyn Hero of Angmar Laid to rest with Markus, his Chosen Blade”

The party decided as a group then, to begin checking the coffins for traps, only two of which they were able to find. Upon opening the grandest coffin in the room, Erin was overcome by a glittery floating cloud, which engulfed his person. He waited, coughed, and generally did all the things you’re supposed to do before you die, and nothing happened. He was fine. And located in the coffin was an immense sword. Then the moaning of a group of ghouls sounded through the oaken doors at the opposite end of the room.

With a quick check of their surroundings, the party saw a ghoul in the left corner of the dungeon room. It was dispatched almost immediately by Aiden Adish, who dished out a magic missile with an 18.

This struck up further moans from the zombies in the adjacent area, and the party, led by Content Not Found: 5969259692 charged into the room. They were met by some shamblers, rotters, and a few zombie warlocks. The enemies began to fall, and just as Erin’s turn to combat came round, everything melted away, the cave, the enemies, and the world itself seemed to swim. All of Erin’s allies dissipated, and the room was replaced by a grand hall, roughly of the same dimensions and shape as the Undercroft he was in previously, but new, lit, and smelled a whole lot better. All that was in the room was a four person group, standing at an altar/throne having what appeared to be a war council.

You know what they say... "Plot runs thicker than Water."

In this chapter of the adventure, The Prestidigtators delved further into Fellcrest cave. They are exploring the vastness of the cave’s atrium, when suddenly, Aiden Adish is pinged by two crossbow bolts.

The party reacts quickly, driving light deep into the atrium of the cavern, and illuminating their foe. Two goblin archers, both skittish and ranged, begin to fill the air with arrows. As the party closes in, they get desperate, one of them switching to melee combat, and the other simply running away. The melee fighter is quickly dispatched by Dave-ward DragonSmasher, our dwarven tank. After “Reaping” goblin number 1, Dave proceeds towards goblin number two, followed close behind by Erin.

Goblin number two releases a daily power, firing three bolts in rapid succession, none of them hit however, and he is quickly “reaped” by none other than our friend, the Dragon-Smasher.

Following the combat rounds, the party finds themselves faced with an insurmountable objective. A vast, yawning, chasm. Far too big to jump across without taking some damage, and far too wide to try to find another way across. Our skillful magus took a look around, perhaps more than one look around, and found a huge stalagmite hanging from the ceiling of the cave.Thinking Brashly, he fires a few Scorching Bursts into it’s meaty flank, finishing it with one classic “Magic Missile.” The Stalagmite fell, creating a land/ice-bridge across the chasm. Of course, that didn’t mean the party could simply walk across. Nay, they all attempted to cross without taking damage. A truly acrobatic feat. Aiden and Dave made it across unscathed, and the rest of our party slipped on the ice, taking a little damage on the way down. Trellec attempted to leap across the Chasm, landing and rolling for little damage.

The true test, however, was yet to come. Further in the cave, the environment getting darker, colder, and less hospitable by far, the party finds a large atrium, with torches and a seemingly homey atmosphere. Not for long.

Inside the room was an Ice Magus, an unscrupulous wizard who has let themselves be possessed by spirits of an element. (In this case, Ice.) This bonding delivers raw power, at the loss of your soul, and everything that makes you who you are. It is these unscrupulous spirits, when at the peak of their power that deliver startling shifts in climate, or simply snow in a town… Snow that hasn’t stopped… And involves bears, and killings… (Cough)

Anywho, the party engages Magus, who trashtalks, and damn near kills everyone in the party, but with careful planning, some good hits from Our bearmancer, and a Daily power from Dave, magus falls to the might of the party, who recuperate and plan their next move.

2nd Meetup
Welcome to the Fellcrest Cave, can I take your order?

In this meetup, (at the Valley Library at Oregon State University) The Prestidigitators are led to Bulgar’s home, which, as the party finds upon arrival, is not empty. Fearing the worst, Bulgar has the party prepare for battle, and they willingly engage.

Bresh, our Bearmancer, quickly summons his celestial charge, and it proceeds to ravage the target. Who turns out to be none other than our newest member. Dave Dragonsmasher, a Dwarf with an appetite for axes.

Arin has stepped out for this meeting, and the party is led by Bresh.

Bulgar later leads the party to the Fellcrest Cave, which is big, and spooky. (oooOOO0….) At the entrance, the party gleans a sort of ominous feeling, (no joke?) a sort of evil emanating from that place.

Bulgar and Bresh lead the way inside, with Dave taking the point position for the party. A party configuration that seems to pay off, as quite quickly, Dave is mauled by another bear. With it’s tearing claws, and burning eyes, it is no pushover. Just as fear sets in, Trevor Bramwell arrives, taking control of Trellec ‘l Bard Our party strikes with several decisive blows, and as it nears it’s last hit point, and victory looks close; another bear arrives.

At this point, our party has taken some beatings, and two bears seem difficult. Thinking quickly, Aiden points out that the first bear should be dispatched, and the party focuses it’s attention on the weaker bear, which falls promptly. The second bear weathers a few hits, but it’s defeat too is inevitable.

Then, without warning, the Last of the Mahicans arrives, and alerts the party of the remaining, huge bear in the cavern ahead. (That’s a joke, they just found him) This was a boss level creature, and managed to damage our party a bit, but through perseverance and teamwork, they stood strong, and with a critical hit, struck this large bear down.

The next week was a recovery from midterms week, and the Third session would take place on the 5th of Nov. Where the Plot Thickens.
